Having cleared a section of beachhead at Crimson Water, the construction crew that had followed along began building a base. Meanwhile, the party proceeded to destroy every archon that emerged from the water. The following morning, the party was confronted by several thugs from Ikar’s Salvage who thought they were claim jumpers. The party made short work of the thugs. Realizing that they were part of a larger group, the party set up a trap, arranging the corpses around a campfire, as Silk and Samantha took the form of two of them. When the next group of thugs arrived, Roland began messing with their leader by projecting thoughts into his mind. When the group of thugs was thoroughly off guard, Coal and Moss emerged from the lake, while Cock and Roland jumped from their hiding places and the battle started.

A scout from the salvage company had been dispatched to watch the battle from afar after the first group didn’t report back. After the battle the party began setting up the dozen and a half corpses into another trap. Several hours later, a party headed by Ikar himself arrived at the site; he clearly had decided that the situation was severe enough to warrant his personal attention.

The trap set was essentially the same as before, though this time with some of the bodies in the lake with Coal and Moss. Upon arriving, Ikar had his men start spearing the corpses, knowing it was a trap. When he was about to spear the disguised Silk, the party sprang their real trap. Music out of nowhere began a low rumble over the hills. As the first major notes of Thriller hit, Coal and Moss emerged from the lake, joined by a dozen dancing corpses the party had rigged up. During the surprise round Samantha managed to critically hit Ikar with hideous laughter; he spent the remainder of the battle laughing like a madman, as the party made short work of him and his men.

After a total of five days guarding the construction crew, a preliminary base had been set up. The second mercenary team, a group of warforged, arrived to take over. The party then made their way out of the mournland, to the train that would start them on their journey back to Arcanix.

Waking up in the under construction keep following their foray into hell, Samantha, the woman the party saved, requested to return to Sigil for some shopping. Roland accompanied her. Meanwhile, the remainder of the party left for Nerath to purchase the Raise Dead ritual, taking the only portal key with them and stranding Samantha and Roland in Sigil overnight.

While Samantha was shopping, Roland was approached by someone who had taken interest in his claims to be from Athas. The man introduced himself as a representative of an organization called SCP (when asked what it stood for, the party was told ‘Secure, Contain, Protect’) that scours the planes for dangerous magical items and locations in order to safeguard them. He expresses interest in hiring Roland to lead an expedition to Athas, which has had a planar barrier that has prevented planar travel to and from Athas for approximately 5000 years. While the organization prepares for the expedition, however, he asked Roland if he’d be interested in assisting them in securing the Crimson Water in Eberron’s Mournland.

The following morning, after activating the portal and letting Samantha and Roland back in, Alanon began casting Raise Dead on one of the Witchalok duplicates the party had hanging in the closet, while Roland informed everybody that he had found work, if they are interested. After leaving the newly revived Utreus duplicate in Walter’s care, the party, Samantha in tow, departed for Sigil to negotiate payment for their work. After coming to an agreement, the party went through their portal to Eberron, spent the night in Arcanix, and met SCP’s local representative, a dwarf named Durnnam Kolkarun, the following day. During the three day coach ride to the nearest lightning rail station, Durnnam gave the party a brief rundown of Crimson Water, referred to by the organization as SCP-354, as well as the plan – they were an advance team being sent to secure a section of beachhead from the water archons that prowl the shores. From there the party needs to guard a construction team while they build a base of operations. From there, a new team of mercenaries will show up to perform the easier task of securing the remainder of the lake from the safety of this base, after which a third team will arrive to destroy any lone archons that arise from the water thereafter.

Upon reaching the city of Passage, the party boarded the lightning rail and spent the next ~6 days traveling towards the Mournland. At the end of the line, the group just barely managed to successfully navigate the Dead Gray Mist and ended up with the Crimson Water in sight. The session ended after the party managed to successfully destroy a group of archons and elementals at the lake shore.

Welcome to your campaign!
A blog for your campaign

Wondering how to get started? Here are a few tips:

1. Invite your players

Invite them with either their email address or their Obsidian Portal username.

2. Edit your home page

Make a few changes to the home page and give people an idea of what your campaign is about. That will let people know you’re serious and not just playing with the system.

3. Choose a theme

If you want to set a specific mood for your campaign, we have several backgrounds to choose from. Accentuate it by creating a top banner image.

4. Create some NPCs

Characters form the core of every campaign, so take a few minutes to list out the major NPCs in your campaign.

A quick tip: The “+” icon in the top right of every section is how to add a new item, whether it’s a new character or adventure log post, or anything else.

5. Write your first Adventure Log post

The adventure log is where you list the sessions and adventures your party has been on, but for now, we suggest doing a very light “story so far” post. Just give a brief overview of what the party has done up to this point. After each future session, create a new post detailing that night’s adventures.

One final tip: Don’t stress about making your Obsidian Portal campaign look perfect. Instead, just make it work for you and your group. If everyone is having fun, then you’re using Obsidian Portal exactly as it was designed, even if your adventure log isn’t always up to date or your characters don’t all have portrait pictures.

That’s it! The rest is up to your and your players.
